The Big Freeze is growing and we’re looking for two new members to join our team. We need an Executive Assistant (permanent role) and a Sponsorship Manager (temporary role). Both positions are during school hours as we appreciate how hard it is to juggle being a working parent! Our office is located in Frankston South, so if you know someone in South East Melbourne or on the Mornington Peninsula, please share with them.

If you have any questions or would like to submit an application, please get in contact with us via email at [email protected]. Applications close September 11, 2016. Thanks for your interest.

Executive Assistant

We are looking for a highly efficient, organised, reliable and friendly person to join our team.

The role will primarily be PA to the event director – managing emails, phone calls, diary appointments, sourcing quotes, communicating with vendors, as well as providing assistance with family responsibilities (such as paying the electricity bill or ordering a birthday cake). Being extremely organised, strong at developing and working through lists, having the ability to work independently to complete tasks and cope with the flexibility large events demand are all vital qualities. From time to time, assistance will also need to be provided to our members of our team as well. Bonus points if you perform better with chocolate and don’t take life too seriously!

Hours:
Initially 5 hours per week on Thursdays 9:30am – 2:30pm.

This is a permanent position, however you must be available for additional hours in the lead up to the festival April – June, 2017 as well as work full time during the festival (July 1-9, 2017) and complete extra hours post festival. Holidays will be scheduled over the Christmas period and late July, 2017.

Salary/Wage:
The option is available to be a sub-contractor or an employee. The hourly rate will change depending upon which scenario is selected to ensure that award conditions are met.

Best suited to:
Someone with an administration or assistant background. Experience in the events industry is a bonus, but far from essential. Being able to work efficiently and complete tasks quickly is extremely important, as well as being able to think on your feet (especially during event period). We need someone to alleviate stress and not create more problems to deal with, all with a friendly smile and a bright personality to help make our work days fun.

Sponsorship Manager

We are looking for a dynamic, reliable and friendly person to join our team and drive the sponsorship campaign for our 2017 festival.

The successful candidate will re-connect with leads we have already generated with the aim to secure face-to-face meetings to discuss our sponsorship options. Being able to effectively communicate the bespoke benefits of a partnership with each different organisation is a critical requirement. Our festival is all about having fun, so it’s important to be bright and bubbly during all phone interactions.

We are located in Frankston South and we provide flexibility during school hours allowing you to make school drop off and pick up each day.

Hours:
Initially 10 hours per week on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30am – 2:30pm.

This is listed as a temporary position, however proving yourself invaluable to our team and securing partnerships will see future opportunities become available to you.

Salary/Wage:
Initially an hourly rate will be negotiated depending upon your experience, qualifications and level of expertise. Very attractive bonuses are also available for any successful sponsorships you are able to secure.

Best suited to:
Someone with a strong marketing or sales background. You need to be able to quickly and effectively communicate via telephone, and be able to think on your feet when curly questions are sent your way. Being able to think outside the square and help develop new ideas for bringing sponsors onboard is also important. Perfect maternity leave position.

Winter Warming Family Activities https://thebigfreezefestival.com.au/winter-warming-family-activities/ https://thebigfreezefestival.com.au/winter-warming-family-activities/#comments Sun, 29 May 2016 05:11:20 +0000 https://thebigfreezefestival.com.au/?p=3393 The post Winter Warming Family Activities appeared first on The Big Freeze Festival.

It’s cold outside, maybe it’s raining and the kids are complaining that they’re bored. There are loads of fun family activities you can do together at home during winter to warm your both body and your heart. Here’s a list of some of my favourite winter warming family activities:

Baking: Kids love to bake and it’s a great opportunity to not only have fun but also learn some valuable life skills. Winter is the perfect time to bake some warm muffins, cookies or cakes.

Movie day: Grab some blankets and pillows and snuggle up on the couch for a movie day. Maybe you can even choose some movies you loved growing up to share with your child.

Building cubbies and forts: What kid doesn’t love building a fort or cubby? Use blankets, pillows and furniture and serve morning or afternoon tea inside.

Craft: Set up a craft station with paper, scissors, pencils, stickers and anything you else you have. You can make collages, do drawings, origami, painting, book making and the list goes on. Let your children use their imagination to create whatever they like.

Hide and Seek: Play a good old fashioned game of hide and seek.

Playdough: Make up a batch of playdough and add some cookie cutters, icy pole sticks and rolling pins. This one is guaranteed to keep the kids amused.

Board Games: Winter is the perfect time to pull out the board games. Some of our current favourites include Guess Who, Connect Four and Trouble. If you’re children are a bit older challenge them to an epic game of Monopoly!

Reading: Cuddle up in bed or on the couch with some story books.

Dance: Music is good for the soul. Turn up the music and dance around the house to keep those bodies warm!

What activities do your family like to do together during the colder months?

10 Indoor Active Play Ideas for Winter https://thebigfreezefestival.com.au/10-indoor-active-play-ideas-winter/ https://thebigfreezefestival.com.au/10-indoor-active-play-ideas-winter/#comments Sun, 29 May 2016 05:02:47 +0000 https://thebigfreezefestival.com.au/?p=3385 The post 10 Indoor Active Play Ideas for Winter appeared first on The Big Freeze Festival.

As we head into winter and the weather gets colder it’s inevitable that we’ll be spending more time inside. To keep the kids (and you) from going stir crazy here are ten easy ideas for indoor active play that will burn some energy without the kids running circles around the house!

Balloons: Cheap and easy to use, balloons can provide endless of hours of indoor active fun. Play catch, balloon volleyball, balloon tennis, and tunnel ball.

Obstacle Course: Use furniture, blankets and pillows to make an indoor obstacle course. Climb under tables, makes tunnels with chairs and blankets and have mini races. This one is just as fun to make as it is to do!

Music and Dancing: Turn up the music and burn some energy by dancing around the room or playing games such as musical chairs and musical statues.

Hopscotch: Use some masking tape to mark out hopscotch on the floor (works on carpet, floor boards or tiles). Then just rip up the tape once you’re done!

Ten Pin Bowling: Even if you don’t have a ten pin bowling set you can use other things from around the house to set up this game; plastic bottles, crayons standing up on their base, or large plastic tumblers will all work. Just make sure you use a nice soft ball!

Balancing act: Use some masking tape to mark out different lines on the floor; straight lines, zig zag and squiggly lines and challenge you child to balance on them or roll a ball along them.

Twister: An old favourite guaranteed to give some giggles. If you don’t have the actual game of Twister you can set up your own using circles cut out in coloured paper.

Ball Toss: Use some soft balls or mini bean bags (you can even use rolled up pairs of socks) with baskets, bowls or cups to set up a ball toss game.

Cotton Ball Hide and Seek: Grab a big pack of cotton balls and hide them all over the house. Put a large bowl in the middle of a room and have your child run around the house and find all the cotton balls and put them into the bowl. Set a timer to make it even more fun and challenging.

Streamer Spider Web: Tape lengths of streamers from one side of a hallway to another at all different heights. Challenge your child to move through the web of streamers without touching by them crawling under and over.

Do you have any other suggestions for keeping kids active inside on a rainy day?

Oz Comic-Con Melbourne returns this June long weekend.

So once upon a time I used to think that Oz Comic-Con was just for those friends and co-workers who would sit up all night watching Star Trek and line up for the midnight showing of Star Wars.

Then I had a son. A gorgeous little boy who is obsessed with superheroes and comics and turning everything not nailed down into a lightsaber. And suddenly all the photos from last year’s Oz Comic-Con that I saw made this an event we were not missing in 2016.

There’s knockout headlining stars – including John Barrowman (Torchwood, Doctor Who, Arrow), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), alongside a guest list of fandom favourites such as David Anders (iZombie, The Vampire Diaries), Timothy Omundson (Psych, Supernatural), Ingrid Oliver and Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who), Paul McGillion and Rachel Luttrell (Stargate: Atlantis) and David Giuntoli (Grimm), there’s something for fans of every genre. Each guest will be taking part in professional photograph and autograph opportunities across the weekend, as well as exclusive question and answer panels each day.

Oz Comic-Con isn’t just about the celebrity guests, however. The show floor will be packed with exciting and exclusive activities and features, including cosplay central, the family activity zone, and a bustling artist’s alley. With world renowned comic artists – including Nicola Scott, Mike Choi, Wolfgang Bylsma and Tom Taylor – in attendance, fans will be able to meet the hands behind their favourite works, as well as get their favourite comics signed. The Victorian finals of the Australian Championships of Cosplay will also be held at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne, with the winner securing a place in the national finals in Brisbane this September.

Oz Comic-Con Melbourne will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 11-12, with doors open from 9am until 6pm each day.

For further information please visit their website
